Finding Joy in Everyday Moments

I have been doing quite a bit lately and writing about it often. It is a great joy to do things after being in hospital or inpatient rehab for most of the past fourteen months. I am still thinking though. About who I am. About who I want to be. About writing a book. About speaking to groups. How to use those fewer than 1000 weeks out of my 4000 Weeks.

It seems odd that I have been happier the past year than I have ever been, but it is true. I have discovered joy in everyday occurrences. I find a sense of accomplishment in things that a toddler or young child has well under control. I want to climb up on the rooftop and tell you all that you can be happy without success. That indeed, yiu can be happy with what seems like a horrible life.

As part of Flowing Waters, my buddhist sangha, I have weekly online meetings. One aspect of those meetings is a walking meditation for 20-30 minutes. I head outside when possible in my trusty power wheelchair. I set it on the slowest speed “indoor slow” and turn down the limiter all the way. This lets me “walk” without thinking about it as my top speed is 0.6 MPH (about twice as fas as I can walk with assistance and great effort using my rollator). During my walk, I have time to pass my neighbor who has a Certified Wildlife Habitat®. It is a beautiful yard filled with plants, insects, birds, and the occasional visiting wild critter.

I experience great joy and gratitude every time I pass this yard. What are your kittle moments of joy?
