Actually Eighteen Medical Conditions

Healthcare team gathered around a patient in a hospital treatment room

This may sound whiny, since I’m just going to dump the list and not comment, but it’s bedtime and I want to get it out there while I contemplate.

I think I may have mentioned my twenty-three medical conditions. That was the number of conditions listed in one report from one of my neurologists. I claimed there were some duplicates and some missing. I decided to make a list, and I am a big user of AI, so I had Anthropic’s Claude read through my saved medical records and report the list. Once we remove the duplicates and resolved conditions, I only have twenty. To be really fair, eighteen, since the TGA and schwannoma probably should count as resolved.

ConditionDescription
Fungal meningitisCurvularia infection of the brain’s lining and ventricles; on voriconazole, likely lifelong
Post-infectious vasculitisInflamed brain arteries from the infection; severe basilar and vertebral narrowing
Ischemic strokesMultiple strokes in brainstem, cerebellum, frontal lobe and basal ganglia; later labeled cryptogenic; Eliquis started 08/24/2026
Left hemiparesisSevere left-sided weakness, spastic, with general weakness and speech and swallowing involvement (per 2024 and 2025 notes)
Spasticity and painBack, left shoulder and left knee pain; muscle spasms (2024 notes)
HeadacheChronic, linked to the meningitis
Transient global amnesiaSeptember 2023 episode; amnesia still listed as active
Eye misalignmentCongenital strabismus with diplopia; dysconjugate gaze and nystagmus
Hearing lossTotal loss of hearing in right ear
Tinittus
Vestibular schwannomaAcoustic neuroma resected December 2023; right-ear hearing loss since
MeningiomaSmall right frontal; listed as active
Pial AVFIncidental left frontal arteriovenous fistula
HypertensionFundamental hypertension
HypertensionLabile blood pressure, with hypotensive episodes (suspected dysautonomia in 2025)
HyperlipidemiaHigh cholesterol
PFOPatent foramen ovale
Loop recorderImplantable monitor in place since October 2025
Elevated liver enzymesLinked to voriconazole; normalized in 2025, elevated again February 2026
Urinary problemsBlood in urine (2024 referral), bladder-control issues, urology follow-up February 2026; no diagnosis named

There are some we view as resolved, though I keep feeling the syncope just “hasn’t happened recently.”

Right leg DVTFebruary to March 2024; IVC filter placed March 2024, removed December 2024
EncephalopathyResolved
HydrocephalusMild, communicating; never needed treatment
Aspiration pneumoniaTreated in 2024; a separate pneumonia in December 2024
Syncope with new strokesDecember 2024, from low blood pressure
Gallbladder surgerySurgery in 2005
