My friend David (since high scool, or as Mrs. Howell would insist we call it prep school) came to visit Friday afternoon through today. It was such a gift to have him here, finally meet Rachel, share stories an do so much to help me. His kindness and generosity are amazing.
Friday, we went for an early dinner at Uchiko which was delightful. Spencer joined us/. He and I had some first class ngiri and the table shared a variety of dishes. They did a great job accomodating two power wheelchairs and a soy sensitivity. Five stars.Friday night was different. We had no internet and cut our cable long ago, so we talked.
Saturday we got to work and play. Tried to deal with Google Fiber because they could not manage to turn our internet on. Still failed. David was being a chore animal throughout his visit so I am not sure which day things got done. He assembled two bedside tables for our now guest bedroom, formerly Spencer’s room. Guests now have the whole upstairs floor with their own bathroom, a big TV (that only works with internet), a foosball table, an almost kitchenette (water, refrigerator and microwave), and a ton of workout gear. He helped a lot with GFiber interactions. He helped with organizing, introducing me to his smoothie habit, setting up tables, moving the main bedroom TV (our only OTA TV) so we could watch the Super Bowl. He took me to Brushy Creek Lake Park where walked about two miles. Saturday night we attended a Damn the Torpedoes Tom pPetty tribute band concert. I had a wonderful time and was “chair dancing” for most of the almost three hour concert. David had called ahead and made accessibility arrangement since the venue is GA. ACL Live 3Ten is a great small venue (holds about 350 people) and the staff were impeccable setting up a roped-off area right at the front stage right. We had a beautiful view and it was a great show. We hung out for a bit since David got a show poster and had every band member autograph it. I think he got some mileage there by saying this was my first show after over ten strokes in a year. The videographer came over and thanked me for coming and shared some of his story.
Sunday, David indulged me by having him bring me to Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church. It has been a joy to attend church in person five times since Thanksgiving. I missed it when I was inpatient for most of a year. The sermon was shared by two young adults who I think are both graduating this year. They shared about difficulties they have (one with anxiety disorder and one with ADHD) and with how they cope with them. That was extremely brave of them. I am proud to see our church helping to turn these youth into wonderful adults.
Monday was a therapy day and they kicked my butt. Today is a break. Tomorrow I have therapy, part of the time both PT and OT, and my PT will join me going to a massage after. I hope we can make it work because I have a desperate need and ten sessions left at Oak Haven. Also, we finally got GFiber working, though we are now having some problems due (we hope) to a known local outage.
Today we had a relaxed morning of conversation and goodbyes. David took note of some Deerfield names so watch out boys! He will be pitching visits (would love to see any of you in Austin) and helping me get to the valley for reunion in June.
